We get attached to material things because they are what's tangible and visible. Whether we like it or not, we see someone else's face as we sift through the pages of an old book. We read the same set of words and they remind us something, or someone, whether we like it or not. Whether we intend to or not, we hear someone else's voice as we tinker with the lid of a cold coffee cup. We taste the same tinge of creme and it reminds us something, or someone, whether we intend to or not.
We hold on to the memories that we like, we choose them, and we keep them, intentionally or unintentionally, through the things that remind us of them.
And because all material things are ephemeral, we must find ways to keep those memories intact. We let go of what's surreal yet temporary and we settle with what's abstract yet real. These are the things that matter the most because they are what's impermeable and indissoluble.
I'm all sorts of sentimental, you see, but
I'm pretty sure I'll go permanent with you.
